The decade marked the new beginning of baseball cards. The production began in 1933 with the legendary Goudey Set, consisting of 239 cards highlighting stars well into their careers, although declared "Rookie Card," by the industry. The set is packed with Hall Of Famers such as Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Mel Ott, Carl Hubbell, Jimmie Foxx, and more. The '33 set was followed by the similar 1934 Goudey set highlighted by HOF Rookie Cards of Luke Appling, Chick Hafey, Ernie Lombardi, and Hank Greenberg. Wrapping up the decade is the 1939 Play Ball set featuring rookie cards of Bobby Doerr, Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio.
